NAGPUR: A gallery, meant to showcase the sacrifices and bravados of the braveheart security personnel, was formally inaugurated at the police headquarters of Gadchiroli on Sunday. A member of the martyrs' family inaugurated the gallery 'Shourya Sthal', brainchild of the outgoing SP Shailesh Balkawade, in an emotionally charged programme.
In another programme, Balkawade and his team inaugurated the renovated building of the police hospital and multispeciality clinic for the personnel which is also housed at the headquarters.
The facility was developed with modern equipment and gadgets to ensure better treatment facilities under one roof.
In the first programme, the innovative concept of gallery marked the beginning of an attempt to go beyond the existing formalities of putting up the photo frames of the martyred jawans and officers at the SP's office. The new gallery would have small descriptions and brief details about the martyrs and their sacrifices along with their photographs. So far, around 212 security personnel had laid down their lives while fighting the Maoists in the district.
The gallery would also have the names and descriptions of the officers who have been honoured with various medals for their gallantry and services in the district. The novel artefacts of the tribal culture, prepared by the local artisan, too would find place in the gallery.
Apart from Balkawade, Addl SPs Mohitkumar Garg, Ajay Bansal, Manish Kalwaniya and Asst SP M Sudarshan too were present.
