Mahoba police on Sunday arrested a local gangster, Ashu Bhadoria, but not in connection with the murder of businessman Indra Kant Tripathi who in a viral video message had accused the then district police chief Mani Lal Patidar of extortion and intimidation.

Bhadoria’s name had come up in the investigation as it was alleged that he had called a close relative of Tripathi three hours before he was shot on September 8, asking about the businessman’s whereabouts and telling him to convey that“Raja saheb naaraj ho rahe hai (Raja saheb is getting annoyed)”.

IG (Chitrakoot Dham) K Satya Narayan said that so far police have not found involvement of Bhadoria in Tripathi’s murder. “The investigation is still on. No one has been arrested in connection to Tripathi’s murder case so far,” the IG added.

Station House Officer (Kotwali police station) Anil Singh said Bhadoria has also been booked for violating the district magistrate’s order. “Last month, the district magistrate had externed him from Mahoba district for six months, but he was caught roaming in the city,” the SHO said, adding that Bahdoria has five pending cases against him.

During the preliminary inquiry, police came to know that Bhadoria used to do odd things to get in the limelight. He posted photographs on social media with weapons in his hands, said a police officer.

A senior police officer said that during questioning Bhadoria claimed to have got Tripathi’s brother-in-law Brijesh Shukla’s cellphone number from a resident and attempted to threaten Indra Kant through him. “He was referring to himself as Raja in the conversation that he had with Shukla,” said a senior police officer.
