Prep rewind: Holland tennis edges Zeeland East

The Holland boys tennis team defeated Zeeland East 5-3 on Monday in an OK Green showdown.

The Dutch swept the singles matches as Neil VanFaasen defeated Riley Wilson 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1. Sean Ruhf beat Paul Freeman 7-5, 7-6(0) at No. 2. Cristian Castro-Gonzalez defeated Owen Kring 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 and Carter Lynch topped Will Michmerhuizen 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4.

Holland won the No. 1 doubles match as Matt Huizinga-Elliot Wehrmeyer defeated Drew Wyckoff-Keenan Faber 6-3, 1-6, 6-2.

The Chix won the remaining doubles matches with Ethan Wilmot-Sam Mulder defeating Danny VanRavenswaay-Sam Payne 6-3, 6-1 at No. 2. Jonah DeBoer-Gabe Jarvis beat Steve Nguyen-Andrew Lubbers 6-4, 6-0 at No. 3. Dominic Schuitema-Corbin Cnossen beat Micah Babinski-Alex Marko 6-3, 6-2 at No. 4.

Hamilton ties Unity

The Hamilton boys tennis team tied Unity Christian 4-4.

The Hawkeyes swept the singles matches, while Unity swept the doubles.

Wil Goodpaster won 2-6 , 6-4 , 6-2 at No. 1. Collin VanderHulst won 6-1 , 6-0 at No. 2. Colin Costello won 6-0 , 6-0 at No. 3. Kyle Theodore won, 6-4 , 6-1 at No. 4.

Blackhawks top Watervliet

Fennville defeated Watervliet 4-1 on Monday.

Eddie Mendoza led Fennville with two goals. Angel Villafuerte scored a goal and had an assist. Jonathan Mendoza also added a goal. Michael Ponce and Christian Mendoza-Huynh were each credited with an assist. Carter Mokma had five saves in goal.

Chix defeat WMC

Zeeland East defeated Western Michigan Christian 5-1.

Scoring for the Chix were Jack Durham, Kaiden Cook (twice), Kameron Link, and Isaac Fernandez.

GIRLS GOLF

Hawkeyes take second, Maroons finish third

Hamilton finished in second place with 191 at the OK Blue Jamboree at Winding Creek.

Cora Sharp shot a 42 to lead the Hawkeyes, followed by Alexis VanderZwaag (49), Autumn VanderKooi (50) and Gabi DeVries (50).

The Holland Christian girls finished third with a score of 195.

Ainsley VandenBrink shot a 44 and Jade VanEyk had a 45. Georgia Lincicum added a 50 and Julia VanGelder shot a 56.

VOLLEYBALL

Panthers split at tri

West Ottawa defeated Allendale 25-12, 25-15, 25-12 and lost to Forest Hills Central 21-25, 25-12, 26-24.

Against Allendale, the Panthers tallied 28 kills and 41 digs. Against FHC, the Panthers totaled 22 kills and 4 aces.

Blackhawks drop two

The Fennville volleyball team lost 25-6, 25-20 to Berrien Springs and 25-21, 29-27 to River Valley at the Berrien Springs tri-match.

Najeeah Chambers led the offense with eight aces.

Middles Kyrie Scholten and Ava Rosema tallied 16 kills, 10 kills and six kills, respectively.

Jessica Sanchez paced the defense with 36 digs.

Hannah Buter contributed eight aces, 11 kills and 17 digs.
