NTPC Ltd on Tuesday said it seeks to set up manufacturing industrial parks within its power plants at Solapur in Maharashtra, Kudi in Karnataka and Gadwara in Madhya Pradesh. The company has invited expression of interest (EoI) from MSMEs and other Indian companies for setting up the energy intensive manufacturing plants such as bulk chemicals like ammonia, urea, gypsum, geopolymer, cooling and heating solutions, aluminium and mineral processing like ceramics, tiles, pottery, brick and glass etc in the industrial parks to be developed on a pilot basis, an official statement said.

Besides offering reliable electricity supply at competitive prices, the parks will provide readily available infrastructural services like water supply, road and rail network, internet connectivity along with various testing facilities, it said. As part of the plan, NTPC will enter into a separate agreement with prospective entities for allotment of spaces. These industrial parks will be subjected to requisite approvals from respective state governments and the central government. NTPC will process these approvals based on responses received in the EOI.

“NTPC’s power plants across the country have evolved into economic centres with robust infrastructure systems in place. Capitalising on the economic ecosystem developed over a period of time, NTPC is exploring ideas to improve utilisation of land within its plant locations for enhancing economic activity and further contributing to economic growth of the country,” the statement said. With a total installed capacity of 62.9 GW, NTPC group has 70 power stations comprising 24 coal, seven combined cycle, one hydro, 13 renewables along with 25 subsidiary and joint venture power stations. The group has over 20 GW of capacity under construction, of which 5 GW comprises renewable energy.
