West Ham news LIVE: Latest updates as Moyes, Diop and Cullen test positive for coronavirus before Hull win

Jack Rosser @JackRosser_23 September 2020

Hello and welcome to our live rolling coverage of the latest West Ham news.

The Hammers' Carabao Cup third-round tie on Tuesday night was hugely overshadowed by the news that manager David Moyes plus defender Issa Diop and midfielder Josh Cullen have all tested positive for Covid-19.

Moyes was absent from the touchline for 5-1 win against Hull as assistant Alan Irvine took over coaching duties, while Diop and Cullen were both originally supposed to start before being withdrawn from the XI after the teams were announced.

West Ham later confirmed that all three had tested positive for coronavirus, immediately leaving the stadium and returning home. There could yet be more fallout ahead of the Hammers' upcoming Premier League clash against Wolves on Sunday, while last weekend's opponents, Arsenal, will likely provide an update about their squad.

Late changes to West Ham team

The Hammers have made two very late changes to their starting lineup for tonight's clash.

Jack Wilshere and teenage defender Harrison Ashby are both promoted to the first XI at the expense of Josh Cullen and Issa Diop.

Goalkeeper David Martin is now listed as a substitute.

Hull in form

West Ham seem unlikely to have it all their own way tonight against a Hull side that have responded well to last season's desperate relegation from the Championship.

Grant McCann's men currently sit third in League One after successive wins over Crewe and Gillingham in which they recorded back-to-back clean sheets.

Hull have also proved their considerable mettle from the spot, with penalty triumphs over Sunderland and Yorkshire rivals Leeds in this competition.

Ezgjan Alioski's stoppage-time equaliser at Elland Road last week remains the only goal the Tigers have conceded so far this term.

West Ham team news

David Moyes has a rather top-heavy squad at West Ham, meaning he's able to rotate and still send out a forward line worth in excess of £100million.

Sebastien Haller and Felipe Anderson both managed to get their campaigns off to a scoring start against Charlton last week and will be hoping to continue that form if given the chance at London Stadium tonight.

Robert Snodgrass was impressive on his return from injury, as was Josh Cullen, back after two years on loan with Charlton. They should both get another run out once more.

Jack Wilshere will be hoping to be involved in the squad on some level having missed out last week with a slight ankle problem.

Moyes seeking cup comforts for West Ham

David Moyes will hope the Carabao Cup can provide another injection of optimism at West Ham this week.

Having started their Premier League campaign with back-to-back defeats, and with more fearsome fixtures to come over the next few weeks, the League Cup may provide some comfort.

A 3-0 win over Charlton last week set up another home tie, this time against Hull City, who overcame Leeds United to reach the third round.
