ALAPPUZHA: Alappuzha's Muppalam (Triple bridge), a place where three bridges connected to each other, is a beautiful place and was a favourite shooting location of Bollywood, Tollywood, Mollywood and Kollywood.
Over 50 films acted by superstars Prem Nazir, Mohanlal, Mammootty, All Arjun, Prthviraj, etc shot on this Muppalam near Alappuzha beach connects three bridges at one place to link three roads.

Now, the state government is all set to construct four bridges(nalppalam) here in the place of triple bridge and it's foundation laying ceremony was already held. The new ‘nalppalam’ will connect Vada canal and commercial canal of Alappuzha town. At present Muppalam is having 5 metre width and 22 metre length. As per the new design, three bridges will be constructed having length of 23 metre length and 7.50 metre carriage width. The fourth bridge having foot path two sides will have 26 metre length and 7.50 metre carriage width. The total cost of the project is Rs 17.44 crore. There will be a landscape in the model of oval shape connecting the mid part of four bridges. Solar light will also be installed.
A Kabir, film production controller of the film here said that over 50 films like Cross Belt acted by Sathyan, Sanchari acted Prem Nazir, climax of Pappyude Swantham Appoos, Mohanlal’s Ustad, Prthiviraj film Thalappavu, Mannar Mathai Speaking were shot on this bridge.
“It is a favourite location of all the leading film industries of our country. This bridge was constructed in very traditional style and an inevitable part of Alappuzha’s heritage. So, the government can take steps protect this valueble bridges instead of its demolition,” said Kabir.
