5 Seconds Of Summer's Ashton Irwin Announces Debut Solo Album 'Superbloom'

Ashton Irwin has confirmed details of his debut solo album.

‘Superbloom’ is scheduled to drop on October 23 via Ingrooves, and will feature the newly shared lead single Skinny Skinny, a reflection on body dysmorphia and anxiety that locks into a melancholic groove comprised of acoustic guitar sequences and a gently affecting vocal lead.

The news arrives with an emotive video for the folk-pop track, which sees Irwin perform an intricate, contemporary dance routine. Check it out below, alongside the new LP's tracklist and artwork. 

“The over-arching narrative is support system, healing, recovery, strength and focus on true self. I felt like I had a lot to write about,” the 5 Seconds Of Summer drummer explained. In a statement, he continued:

“I had to reach a certain level of lyrical maturity in order to write about something I actually cared about. I think it’s always important as an artist to have a mission statement, like, ‘why do you make music? Why do you write the lyrics you write?’.

“It was really freeing and inspiring to me. The journey I was intending was growth, self-understanding, self-reliance when it comes to song-writing and production. The songs I’ve written for this record couldn’t be sung by anyone else but me.”

‘C A L M’, the last full-length effort from 5 Seconds Of Summer, dropped in March and reached #1 on the Official UK Albums Chart. The alt-rockers are set to support the record with a rescheduled world tour throughout 2021, which will hit the UK, Europe, North America and Australia. Remaining tickets are on sale now.
