A Merseyside pub has shared a heartfelt message with its customers after taking the decision to close for 14 days.

The Wellington pub in Southport closed its doors on Tuesday, September 22, following a positive case of coronavirus.

Landlady Annie McTaggart told the ECHO she made the conscious decision to close the pub for two weeks, after a staff member tested positive for the virus.

The pub, which had recently been sanitised by a cleaning company, will undergo another deep clean before reopening on October 5.

"(Because) of a reported case of Covid.

"We have sanitised every day plus had a company in and sanitised!

"So it shows you it can defeat even the strongest and fearless.

"We will come back stronger than ever guys, I'll miss you tons."
