The Department of Rural Roads has opened a new bypass in Chumphon. The aim is to reduce traffic on Highway 327 from the Pathom Phon intersection to the city of Chumphon.

The four-lane road is 8.44km long. It starts from KM2+500 of Road 4001 to Highway 41 at KM6+100. The road also has bridges built over the Tha Taphao and Chumphon canals. The investment cost a total of about 788 million baht.

The bypass will shorten the travel distance by about 6km.

The transport company Nakhonchai Air is offering a 40% discount on rental fees for a 16-seat Toyota Coaster minibus.

The rate is reduced from 9,900 baht per day to 5,999 baht. The price includes a driver and the bus features a GPS tracking system, a 32-inch TV and a USB charging station on every passenger seat.

Research team eyes gastrotourism

A research team at Suan Dusit University has launched the "Gastronomy Village Tourism" project to promote local food and way of life of people in Rayong, Chanthaburi and Trat.

The project is funded by the Office of National Higher Education Science Research and Innovation Policy Council of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation.

The research team will visit local communities to check if villages have tourism potential. They will record their activities in video clips including panning for gemstones, steaming in a chicken coop in Ban Chang Thun in Borai district of Trat and enjoying nam phrik khoei sap or chilli dip made of tiny shrimp paste in Ban Ta Nuek of Khlong Yai district in Trat.

The research team will provide updates in Thai at facebook.com/gastronomyvillagetourism.
