THIS WAS THE SCENE THIS AFTERNOON, MEMBERS OF THE PA NATIONAL GUARD UNLOADING SUPPLIES FOR WESTMORELAND MANOR. WITH ANOTHER EMPLOYEE TESTING POSITIVE, COUNTY OFFICIALS SAY THERE ARE NOW 70 CONFIRMED CASES OF COVID-19 LINKED TO WESTMORELAND MANOR. 47 RESIDENTS AND 23 EMPLOYEES. THIS MOVE TO BRING IN THE GUAR WAS SOMETHING COUNTY COMMISSIONERS SAY THEY WANTD TO DO TO TRY AND BE PROACTIVE. OFFICIALS SAY RIGHT NOW THE GUARD IS WORKING TO TEST AND RE-TEST THE MORE THAN 330 RESIDENTS IN THE FACILITY INCLUDING STAFF AND EMPLOYEES. The Pennsylvania National Guard will remain at Westmoreland Manor through the weekend at least, Westmoreland County commissioners said Wednesday.A total of 57 residents and 23 employees at the county-operated nursing facility have tested positive for COVID-19, commissioners said.After consulting with the state Department of Health, it was decided that the Guard will remain on site until Oct. 4, commissioners Sean Kertes and Doug Chew said. Another consultation will be done on Oct. 4 to decide whether the Guard needs to stay or can leave.Six members of the Guard arrived Sunday. Their role will be to assist with testing, so that management staff can focus on patient care, the county commissioners said.Of the total cases at Westmoreland Manor, commissioners say most patients are currently asymptomatic.Westmoreland Manor will continue to test all staff and residents who have tested negative every three to seven days, until 14 days after the most recent positive test result, commissioners said.
