In Short

  • According to Mohammad Kaif, 4-day gap has helped Delhi Capitals
  • Kaif is certain that the new bunch of players can do well against CSK
  • CSK and DC will meet in Dubai at 7PM on Friday

Shreyas Iyer’s Delhi Capitals once again rose to the occasion and performed well under pressure to win another Super Over in the IPL in their 2020 season opener against KL Rahul’s Kings XI Punjab. Delhi won the game but their performance wasn’t top-notch against Punjab, according to Delhi Capitals assistant coach Mohammad Kaif. However, the former India cricketer believes that the 4-day gap between their two fixtures have helped the players and the staff in terms of fitness and game planning.

‘Ye break kaafi help karega [This break has been advantageous for Delhi]. We were playing after a long time, we could see that the players were rusty, it wasn’t out best game but we still got 2 points from the win [against KXIP]. It was an under pressure game and I have seen a lot of improvement since ahead of the next match (against CSK),” Kaif said in a video posted by the official twitter handle of Delhi Capitals.

“A 4-day gap means you can practice well enough, plan for the next game and I had a lot of time to interact with the players. We were able to see what the conditions are in Dubai, assess the boundary for fielding, the pitch amongst all factors. We have worked on a lot of things, addressed the owes as well already. So the gap was very advantageous for the team.”

Coming to MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings, Kaif is confident of Delhi performing well against their opponents given the new conditions in the UAE that has not enhanced CSK’s strengths to the fullest.

“Chennai Super Kings are of course a strong team, their main weapon is their spinners during the middle overs. But thankfully there hasn’t been much turn in Dubai yet and there’s ample dew so I think the spinners haven’t been as dangerous but these are new conditions with a lot of changes since the last IPL which was 1.5 years ago. So we are seeing this as a whole new competition altogether. So the previous stats won’t necessarily matter,” Kaif added.
