After smartphones and Truly Wireless (TWS) earbuds, smart-TV seems to be the next popular category among mobile brands. The latest smartphone brand to jump on the smart TV bandwagon is Oppo. The company has once officially confirmed that it will be launching smart TVs. The Chinese company announced this during Oppo Developer Conference (ODC) 2020 where it unveiled ColorOS 11 and Oppo Watch ECG Edition for the Chinese market.
It said that it is expanding its ecosystem with the addition of smart TVs. The new smart TVs will launch some time next month (October).
Oppo general manger Yi Wei did not reveal much about the upcoming smart TV. He, however, said that the launch of smart TVs is a key step towards expanding the company’s IoT network of devices. Speculations suggest that Oppo may launch smart TVs in two sizes -- 55 inch and 65 inch. These two sizes were reportedly seen on certification websites. The upcoming TVs from Oppo and their remote controls received 3C and Bluetooth SIG certifications recently.
In June this year, while celebrating its first anniversary of commercialising 5G in China, Oppo shared an image that had a list of different products. These include Oppo Enco W51 earbuds, two smart watches, AR (augmented reality) glasses and TV. The company, however, did not reveal any other detail about the TV during the event or in the image.
Oppo recently launched Oppo Watch with ECG in China. The original Oppo Watch was widely reported to include ECG, however, the feature did not make it to the final version. The ECG feature has now arrived as an update to the Oppo Watch lineup. Oppo Watch ECG Edition comes in only 46mm model. Other specifications of the smartwatch are same as the other variant. There is no information about the watch's India launch.
Oppo launched its first smartwatch in India in July this year. It comes in two sizes 41mm and 46mm, priced at Rs 14,990 and Rs 19,990. It runs on ColorOS Watch based on Android. There's 1.91-inch AMOLED display with 402x476 pixels resolution and 326ppi pixel density.
