Some may. But the minority isn't the majority. Furthermore, how do they always find the one person to quote that always wants to downplay their own struggles? Look at the laws themselves about sexual violence. They are not conducive to reporting sexual crimes. The burden of proof is on the victim and they must prove beyond a reasonable doubt that they fought back in every way imaginable and with every fiber of their being in order for it to be considered sexual assault.

More and more Japanese men are reclusive, don't date, don't want to bother women or say something that might offend them.... Which is bad for a country losing it's population.

Women lie about sexual and non-sexual assault because it gives them power over someone. Of course some women lie about it. And it's terrible not only because it can hurt the accused, but also cause people to doubt actual victims of assault, which is a real shame.

If the justice system had investigation skills, competence, transparency wouldn't it be part of their job to expose a lie? So accidentally she has said that the justice system isn't really working for women. As the investigators are so inept they can't tell a lie from the truth?, courts only listen to prosecutors who only prosecute when sure or told to get a guilty verdict her comment says a lot about the confidence she has in the system.

She has a track record of coming out with controversial, unpleasant statements about all kinds of people and later claiming to have been misunderstood.

Its worth highlighting the stupidity of this comment of hers too. I don’t want to bash them, but the role of police should be confined to gathering evidence and apprehending suspects. That is what they are trained for. Consulting in a sensitive manner with sexual assault victims is....to put it mildly not their strong suit.

Sugita Mio is a nasty nasty person. Just look at her Wikipedia entry. There is absolutely nothing to like about this vile person. I don't see her as a 'productive' person in any sense.

This statement itself is superficially true, but it is extremely distasteful in that ignores a very large problem and focuses on a far lesser one to downplay the very large one. It's the "all lives matter" tactic.

The big problem is non-prosecution of violence against women in Japan. Some women do make false accusations of attacks, but it is a very minor problem by comparison. Some false accusations are to gain custody of children, and will result directly from the confrontational way in which custody is treated in Japan. The system encourages people to lie and fight.

It is the job of politicians to bring out the best in people. Statements like this stoke fear and bring out the worst.

Happened to me. I wouldn’t wish that on any man. It was terrible. I do wish that my accuser had to endure what I went through. Nothing happened to her when she eventually (took a couple weeks) admitted that she was just upset at me. She had the power. I had none but my word. She is out of my life.

The police have a very poor record of supporting victims of sexual assault here, from questioning if it really did happen, claiming you really wanted it if you were dressed in a certain way, to delaying medical care and testing.

The truth isn’t a tactic. It is reality. BLM is manipulating people’s emotions, bullying and lying. Motivated by her trauma Ito is pushing an agenda - intolerant of opinions different from her own.

But we have all heard of atariya, the people intentionally put parts of their body, such as their hand, in front of a moving car so as to claim compensation right? We have all heard of small gangs that make false claims of groping for compensation right? But we are expected to believe that no woman lies or even exaggerates about rape? Or its only a tiny, tiny minority?

Since even consensual sex is not out in the open where everyone can see no one has any idea what is going on but the (usually two) people involved in the act. And one or both might even be completely delusional. So how to pick a position? Gender and agenda bias. That's what most people do. But we really know nothing.

What an utterly disgusting attitude from a female politician. She clearly missed the memo that it is 20 years into the 21st century now. Shows just how far behind the rest of the world Japan is.

Firstly, Sugita is obviously attacking Shiori Ito again, so her comment is personal, vindictive, and lacks any facts to back up her claim.

She talks about a tiny minority of people who make false accusations - though she said "women", not "people". Did she have nothing to say about the huge number of people - notice I said "people", not "men" - who rape, have raped, and will rape?

This make her not much different from the "Not All Men" brigade who relentlessly invade and railroad all conversation about how to stop rapists.

So, do I think it is acceptable? Depends on the context. If the context is what to do about the crime of rape, and the criminals who rape, then yes, it is unacceptable because it shows the speaker's ulterior motive, which is to keep the spotlight on victims and off rapists.

When you have found a solution for the former massive problem of men who rape and then lie about it, then you can start a separate discussion about the latter, much less common* problem of women who lie about being raped.

*Check the stats: The rate of false accusations of rape are no higher than false accusation of any other crime.

Cases of sexual violence are hard to prove, due to the private nature of sexual encounters.

I have a friend who had his 5 years of his life and career ruined because his cheating spouse lied that he beat her during the divorce court hearings.

On the other hand I have a (former) superior who lied about everything, took credit for his subordinates work, and sexually harassed the female workers.

In other news, Bobby Ologon is undergoing a criminal investigation because his wife claims he punched her, while Bobby claims he poked her with his finger. One of the two is lying.

SOME (and I say SOME... not ALL, but a FEW), Women can, when they see the opportunity , lie through their teeth, in order to get vengeance upon a man they feel "harmed" by (regardless whether physical or "mentally") ... in the US, it's worse -(particularly if over time you've become Famous) - it's almost mandatory that you sue first, as there's no repercussions from doing so, and the Lawyers always come out top, especially since the accused has to counter-sue...

The Legal system needs to be overhauled when it comes to dealing sexual assault cases.

When there is a clear case of a predatory person attacking another upon the street (or elsewhere) - then throw the "proverbial" book at him/her.

BUT, when for example, it comes to a pair of Students meeting, going out, and having sex together and one later complaining that it was RAPE... then it is potentially TOTALLY WRONG, to classify the other as a SEX OFFENDER... that's totally wrong, ruins their life, and for what ? (If Violence was involved resulting in injury, then that's a different case, but we're seeing University Kids being accused of Rape following dates that just perhaps got a bit too much hormone involved, and as an after-thought one decides the other was wrong...!!!)

A MATURE Judge should see through this reasonably, however the LAW does not allow for a Lenient view - it's binary, and the Woman will generally win. So what happens if you have a Serial Accuser - a Woman, who purposely goes around dating Males, and then accusing them of Rape afterwards ? Anyone going to pick that up ? Does she get put onto some sort of Sexual accusers list ? Nope...

Also, Women coming forward saying they were Raped 5,10, 15 or 30 years ago, is totally wrong... WTF - why did they wait so long ? (Rape has been an illegal thing for longer than that time period, so it's motivated through Greed on their own or their Lawyers behalf or for... Political gain... the latter is shameful for Women-kind in general)... but this is now sadly commonplace in the US and it's fundamentally driven by $... people given this pandemic need $ more than ever - so if claiming something against someone else has a chance of getting you $ then you will do it.... so I guess we will see more and more similar cases in future. BUT... then end result of this, is that it masks the REAL RAPE cases behind the FALSE ones. That is wrong, totally wrong, and in effect, harms the Victim.

The Sexual Assult Laws need to be overhauled, as currently they are being abused. Further-more, "sex" Education in Schools would be better off promoting "decent behavior" towards others, rather than focusing upon minority LGBTY rights, etc. The former should be much more comprehendible for younger participants than the complexities of the latter, and if this "decent" behavior issue is addressed you may not even need the latter, and won't then offend those who have strong Religious feelings one way or the other. This is a great example of deliberate ignorance. I find it hard to see how anyone who keeps themselves even mildly informed, doesn't know where to find an answer to this question within three minutes. The internet is filled with very clear, objective explanations for why so many victims of sexual assault and rape hesitate to come forward.

Really, in this age of instant information, the only people who continue to ask such a question and the ones who actually don't care about the real answer because the lie they have fabricated as an answer is the one they carry with them and repeat ad nauseum.
