Sensex rises over 500 points; Nifty above 11,200

Equity indices opened on a positive note on Monday with the benchmark BSE sensex rising over 450 points amid positive global cues.The 30-share BSE sensex was trading 485 points or 1.30 per cent higher at 37,874; while the broader NSE Nifty was 127 points or 1.15 per cent up at 11,178.

NEW DELHI: Equity indices were trading on a positive note on Monday with the benchmark BSE sensex rising over 500 points amid positive global cues.
The 30-share BSE sensex was trading 548 points or 1.47 per cent higher at 37,937; while the broader NSE Nifty was 168 points or 1.52 per cent up at 11,217.
IndusInd Bank, Bajaj Finance, ONGC, Axis Bank, ICICI Bank and Bajaj FinServ were the top gainers in the sensex pack rising as much as 8.71 per cent.

While Infosys, TCS and Hindustan Unilever were the only losers falling up to 0.84 per cent.
On NSE, sub-indices Nifty Media, PSU Bank, Private Bank and Auto gained up to 4.39 per cent.
According to traders, domestic equities opened on a positive note following positive trend in most Asian benchmarks.
Shares of Lakshmi Vilas Bank Ltd fell 4.7% after the lender's shareholders on Friday rejected the reappointment of seven directors, including the managing director and chief executive. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has appointed a committee to run the bank.

In the previous session, the 30-share BSE index closed 835.06 points or 2.28 per cent higher at 37,388.66. Similarly, the NSE Nifty vaulted 244.70 points or 2.26 per cent to finish at 11,050.25.
Meanwhile, exchange data showed that foreign institutional investors sold equities worth Rs 2,080.21 crore on a net basis on Friday.
