HYDERABAD: A Covid-19 test is a must for voters to exercise their franchise in the upcoming Nizamabad local authorities constituency (MLC) election.
Kamareddy district collector L Sharath, who held a meeting with representatives of various political parties, informed them that every eligible voter must get a Covid-19 test done. If the voter tests positive, he or she would be permitted to vote on a ballot paper or wait until the last hour of polling to cast their vote.
In the local authorities constituency, the electorate consists of elected public representatives, including ward members of all gram panchayats, councillors in municipalities, corporators of municipal corporations, MPTC and ZPTC members.
The election committee had directed that the polls should be strictly conducted following Covid-19 norms.
Political parties were told that they could carry out their campaign for the polls but the candidate could be accompanied by not more four persons while on a door-todoor campaign. They are also supposed to wear a mask and follow physical distancing norms. Polling will be held on October 9 and the counting will be taken up on October 12. The collector informed that 22 polling stations would be set up for voters to cast their vote where Covid-19 norms would be in place. Kamareddy superintendent of police L Swetha sought the cooperation of all political parties in conducting the polling .
Meanwhile, Veera Bharmaiah, election observer for the Nizamabad local authorities constituency, arrived in Nizamabad on Monday. Bharmaiah, who is commissioner and registrar of the cooperative department, was received by Nizamabad district collector C Narayana Reddy.
