PATNA: Unidentified armed criminals shot at a Hindi vernacular scribe at Purani Bazaar under Manjhagarh police station area in Gopalganj on Tuesday morning.
The injured scribe was identified as Rajan Kumar Pandey who is aged around 25 years. Police said that after initial treatment at Gopalganj, he was rushed to Gorakhpur from where he was further taken to Lucknow for surgery. Police said Rajan is native of Langtu Hattha village under Manjhagarh police station area only.

Manjhagarh police station SHO Chhotan Kumar said that Pandey was preparing to contest election to become member in Gopalganj district board in 2021.
He said doctors in Gopalganj suspected that bullet might had hit Rajan’s liver due to which they referred him to better place for carrying out operation. “A police team has also been sent with him,” he said.
“Rajan also used to a small private institute for teaching students. He was returning back to his residence from his institute when three bike borne criminals intercepted him and shot him in back at around 7.30pm,” he said adding Rajan was a block level scribe of the Hindi vernacular.
Kumar said no empty cartridges were recovered from the spot. He said Rajan told names of three persons to police alleging that they were the one who had reached at spot and shot him.

“All three of them are politically active in Gopalganj. No criminal antecedents of the trio were found till now. As per Rajan, he was having rivalry with the trio from sometime,” he said.
SHO said that two of three suspects have been detained for interrogation. He said that after preliminary investigation, it has surfaced before police that political rivalry due to Rajan’s efforts for contesting in district board election might be prime reason behind attempt to kill him. Kumar said police is trying to ascertain if the duo are involved in the incident or not.
SHO said police would soon record statement of Rajan after which a case would be lodged. “Further investigation were going on in connection with the incident,” he added.
