Taking suo motu cognisance of the Hathras incident, a Lucknow bench of Allahabad high court on Thursday issued notices to the additional chief secretary (Home), director general of police, ADGP (Law and Order), Hathras DM and district police superintendent to appear before it on October 12 to explain their version with requisite materials.
The police in Uttar Pradesh's Gautam Buddh Nagar on Thursday said it has lodged an FIR against Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and around 200 other party workers under the Epidemic Diseases Act for not maintaining social distancing and not wearing face masks.

UP Police needed to be "more sensitive and responsible" as their actions triggered anger among people following the cremation of the Hathras Dalit woman in dead of night, head of the parliamentary panel on the welfare of SCs/STs and BJP MP Kirit Solanki said on Thursday.
