Atlanta Motor Speedway will host two NASCAR race weekends for the first time in 10 years.
Speedway officials announced Wednesday morning that the Hampton, Georgia raceway will be the site of a pair of NASCAR Cup Series races in 2021.
The first event, the Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500, will be held on Sunday, March 21, while the second, the Quaker State 400, will be held on Sunday, July 11.
It marks the first time a July Cup Series race has been held at AMS since July 28, 1974, when Richard Petty piloted his No. 43 STP Dodge to the win.
“We’re beyond excited to deliver what our fans have been yearning for: a second weekend of NASCAR action in Atlanta once again,” said AMS Executive Vice President and General Manager Brandon Hutchison. “Folds of Honor and QuikTrip continue to be phenomenal partners for our spring weekend of racing and we’re thrilled to have Quaker State and Walmart on board this summer as we put together two weekends of entertainment and excitement for race fans.”
According to the announcement, the speedway will have fans in attendeance in a limited, socially distanced capacity in both the grandstands and the camping areas for both Cup Series events, with location availability determined on health and safety guidelines.
Between now and the first race date, speedway officials will consult regularly with public health experts to make sure their race day plans are in line with updated safety guidelines, and will adjust their attendance plans between the spring race and the summer event.
“Our goal is to host as many fans as possible, as safely as we can, to enjoy the excitement of NASCAR in Atlanta,” said Hutchison.
