PATNA: Shreyasi Singh, who is a national-level shooter and has won gold medal in 2018 Commonwealth Games, on Sunday joined the BJP in New Delhi in the presence of party’s national general secretary Bhupender Yadav.
Daughter of former Union minister late Digvijay Singh and former Banka MP Putul Kumari, Shreyasi may contest the current assembly election from any seat in Bihar’s Banka district, taking forward the legacy of her parents.

Soon after joining the BJP, Shreyasi told media persons that the main motive behind joining the saffron party was to fulfil the dream of her late father Digvijay Singh who was a Union minister in Chandrashekhar government and later in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government.

Earlier in the month of September, there was speculation in the state’s political circles that Shreyasi and her mother Putul Kumari would be joining Lalu Prasad-led RJD and Shreyasi may contest from Amarpur assembly seat in Banka district.
Putul Kumari was an independent MP from Banka parliamentary seat. She won the seat in a by-election in 2010 after the demise of her husband. Earlier, her husband Digvijay Singh won Banka seat in 2009 Lok Sabha elections as an independent after JD(U) did not give him party symbol.
An associate of former Union minister George Fernandes, Digvijay Singh was one of the founding members of the Samata Party along with Nitish Kumar.
