Sambalpur Deer Park reopens

The Wild Animal Conservation Centre (WACC) here, which is popularly known as the Deer Park, reopened on Sunday after having been shut for more than six months.

SAMBALPUR: The Wild Animal Conservation Centre (WACC) here, which is popularly known as the Deer Park, reopened on Sunday after having been shut for more than six months.
As many as 177 visitors came to the WACC, which has already achieved the status of a small zoo, on Sunday.
The WACC, which is the only small zoo in western Odisha, had been shut since March 16 this year due to the Covid-19 crisis.

Official sources said visitors had to undergo thermal scanning before being allowed entry. Moreover, masks have been made mandatory.
This apart, visitors are being asked to sanitise their hands before being allowed in. To ensure social distancing, rings have been drawn near the animal enclosures. Moreover, the children’s park in the zoo has not been opened.
The WACC, which spreads over 13.16 hectare, is located in the heart of the city. It is home to more than 270 birds and animals of 17 species.
