Northeast monsoon: 955 cyclone relief camps set up in Nagapattinam district
NAGAPATTINAM: Three monitoring teams comprising 10 government departments have been formed in Nagapattinam district to face possible contingencies arising out of the coming northeast monsoon, said the monitoring officer of the district on Tuesday.
A total of 955 cyclone relief camps have been set up.
After attending a consultation meeting that was held at the collector's office, C Minianathan, principal secretary of adi dravidar welfare and northeast monsoon and Covid-19 monitoring officer of Nagapattinam, said eight coordinating committees comprising officials from all the departments have been formed to face any eventualities during the northeast monsoon in the district.
These committees are headed by an officer in the rank of the assistant collector.
Officials have identified 374 vulnerable areas -- including 65 highly vulnerable areas -- in the district.
As many as 6,430 first-level supervising officers take care of the 955 cyclone relief camps.
As many as 2,020 sheds have also been erected to accommodate cattle.
"People can contact a 24-hour toll-free number -- 1077 -- to get any assistance from the district administration in case of any emergency," HE said.
District collector Praveen P Nair, project director of district rural development agency MS Prasad, district superintendent of police S Selvanagarathinam and officials from revenue and police department participated in the consultation meeting.
