Man ends life at Dindigul collectorate
MADURAI: A 45-year-old man from a village in Theni district committed suicide at Dindigul district collectorate on Tuesday by consuming poison as he could not repay a loan he had taken from a private financial institution.
The deceased has been identified as T Arjunan of Kamakkapatti village near Devadhanapatti.
Arjunana went to Dindigul district collectorate on Tuesday to hand over a petition after consuming poison.
As he entered the campus, he fell down and became unconscious.
Police personnel posted on the campus attended to him. They rushed him to Dindigul Government Hospital, where he died.
Police sources said Arjunan had taken a loan of Rs 15 lakh from a financial institution’s branch in Dindigul town, pledging his house, a few years ago. While he managed to pay around Rs 6.5 lakh, he could not pay the rest. Recently, financial institution officials took efforts to recover the loan by auctioning the house. He came to the collector office to try his luck to stop the auctioning process.
The Thadikombu police registered a case.
