TS EAMCET results 2020: Most toppers prefer national institutions over those in state

HYDERABAD: City boy Sai Teja Varanasi bagged the top spot in the engineering stream of the Telangana Engineering, Agriculture & Medical Common Entrance Test (Eamcet) while Andhra Pradesh’s Kapelli Yashwanth Sai and Thammanaboina Mani Venkata Krishna stood second and third respectively even as 89,734 candidates out of 1,19,183 qualified in the test. The Eamcet results were declared on Tuesday.
The qualifying percentage this year marked at 75.29% — 7.12% less than last year. While 82.41% of candidates qualified in the engineering stream of Eamcet in 2019, 78.24% cleared the exam in 2018.
In 2020, of the top 10 spots, candidates from Telangana and AP occupied five each.
Speaking to TOI, topper Sai Teja, who scored 147.29 out of 160 said,“I was quite certain that I would get a good rank in Eamcet. But my target has always been to crack Joint Entrance Examination.” The boy has ranked 51st (all India) in JEE and will be joining the Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai.
While Telangana Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced 2020 topper, Hardik Rajpal, secured fifth rank in the Telangana Eamcet, none of the girls made it the top 10 list this year. Earavelly Sri Harshitha from Saroornagar, Rangareddy, who topped the charts among female candidates, secured a state rank of 11 with 136.63 marks.
“If I had managed time a little better, I would have definitely made it to the top 10,” Sri Harshitha told TOI adding that she missed out on answering a few questions due to lack of time. Harshitha, who secured 438 rank in the OBC category in JEE (Advanced), said she would either be opting for Computer Science or Artificial Intelligence in her BTech.
Much like previous years, most Eamcet toppers are unlikely to pursue professional courses in the state and may opt for premier institutions in the country.
Among students from the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), as many as 1,607 candidates qualified in the test while 114 candidates from the Indian School Certificate (ISC) board cleared Eamcet. The examination was conducted between September 9 and September 13 this year.
While a total of 1,43,265 candidates registered for Eamcet-2020 engineering stream examination, 1,19,183 were present for the test.
A special test will be conducted for Covid-19 positive candidates, who missed the engineering stream exam, on October 8.
Officials said candidates can get their rank cards, admission notification and counselling details from the official Eamcet website.
