AZAMGARH: A Bharatiya Janata Party leader and Kshetra Panchayat member Arjun Yadav (40) was shot dead by some unknown miscreants in Pawai police station area of Azamgarh district on Thursday night. The police launched a manhunt to identify and nab the killers.
According to reports, Yadav, a resident of Jaldipur village, owned a store of ayurvedic medicines near Pawai crossing.
He was attacked by the motorcycle borne miscreants when he was returning home after closing his shop around 9pm on Thursday night. The miscreants opened fire on him and fled from the scene.
Yadav sustained bullet injuries on his chest and fell on the ground. The news of gunshot spread locality like a wildfire in the locality and people started gathering at the spot. The police officials including Azamgarh SP (rural) Siddharth Kumar and Phoolpur CO Rajesh Kumar along with police force reached the incident site after getting information.
Meanwhile, the villagers and family members took him to the local hospital from where he was referred to Phoolpur trauma centre after first aid. Later he was taken to the divisional hospital where doctors declared him dead.
According to the police, the reason behind the killing is yet to be known. The matter is being investigated. Azamgarh SP Sudhir Kumar Singh said that details are being gathered from family members to know the reason behind the killing. The miscreants involved in the murder would be caught soon, said the SP.
