Varanasi: In order study and test the mind and
psychosomatic state of athletes, the
sports psychology laboratory of he laboratory of Physical Education department of
Banaras Hindu University is now armed with state-of-the-art equipment.
The laboratory was inaugurated on Saturday by vice chancellor Prof Rakesh Bhatnagar, who said, “The initiative of
the Physical Education department to establish this standardized lab of sports psychology will help raise the bars of research work and improve the ranking of the university at the
international level.”

Abhimanyu Singh said that this lab would help in conducting high standard research in sports psychology.
“Various training programmes for students can now be held to test and evaluate sports persons accurately. Before the upgradation of the lab, most of the research work depended on questionnaires, and hence the accuracy of such research remained questionable,” he added. “All the equipment have been chosen keeping in mind the current level of competition in the world of sports,” he said, adding, “The all are digital and fulfil the standard of psychological tests.”
Dr Singh further informed that signing of a memorandum of understanding with the Sports Authority of India and Ministry of Sports has been proposed in order to begin testing players representing the country in international sports events. The sports scientists would be trained in this laboratory to work with different sports teams of the country, he added. Among others, dean of Arts faculty, Prof Vijay Bahadur Singh, and vice president of
BHU Sports Board, Prof Dinesh Chandra Rai, were also present in the inauguration.
