BENGALURU: Two days after an 18-year-old girl went missing from her home at Bettahalli in Magadi, Ramanagara district, her decomposed body was found in a mango grove on Saturday. Police suspect the killers smashed her head with a stone.
Hemalatha, the only daughter of farmer Krishnappa and I-year BCom student of a private college, had gone missing on Thursday.
Krishnappa noticed her absence on his return from his fields at 2pm.
He, along along with a few villagers, searched for her , but in vain.
Krishnappa filed a complaint with Kudur police on Friday, naming a villager, Puneeth, as suspect.
“Puneeth kept calling Hemalatha for a few months and Krishnappa suspected his involvement behind her disappearance,” an officer said. Puneeth has been detained.
A postmortem was conducted on Sunday. “The body was completely decomposed and it’s not possible now to confirm or deny rape. Samples have been sent to the forensic lab,” an officer said.
“We’ve registered a case of murder and destruction of evidence under IPC sections 302 and 201. Investigation is on,” S Girish said.
