KALYAN: A man and seven associates were booked by Khadakpada police for allegedly demanding Rs 10 lakh extortion money from a builder, and threatening to fabricate criminal offences against him if he failed to pay. The main accused is identified as Gajanan Vayle, a land owner.
Police said the complainant, builder Sonu Amit Hotchandani, had taken land from Vayle in 2012 for development purposes, on the condition that he would give Vayle 1,200 sq feet.
Hotchandani said after completion, he gave Vayle an allotment letter of a 1,559 sq feet flat—with the condition that for the extra 339 sq feet, Vayle will pay him Rs 20 lakh.
Instead of paying him, Vayle allegedly demanding Rs 10 lakh from Hotchandani. If the builder did not give him the money, Vayle said he would implicate Hotchandani in false cases. On Saturday afternoon, Vayle locked the building gate and stated that it belonged to him. Frustrated, Hotchandani approached the police.
