NIT Trichy becomes part of National Supercomputing Mission

TRICHY: The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Trichy has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), Pune. With this, NIT Trichy has become part of the National Supercomputing Mission (NSM) of the central government.
A total of 10 centrally funded institutions have been inducted into the NSM -- IISc Bangalore, seven IITs. NABI and NIT Trichy.
C-DAC Pune will be installing the supercomputer at NIT Trichy and all other institutions.
The MoU was signed by NIT Trichy director Mini Shaji Thomas and from C-DAC director general Hemant Darbari in the
virtual presence of minister of state for education, communication, electronics and information technology Sanjay Dhotre, department of science and technology (DST) secretary Ashutosh Sharma and ministry of electronics and information technology secretary Ajay Prakash Sawhney.
Thomas said the MoU would lead to a possible increase in research output and the number of societal projects in areas of health, agriculture, weather, financial services and social media. She said the supercomputing facility would be made available to neighbouring educational institutions.
