A spokesperson for Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport Undertaking told ET that power supply was restored in Colaba, Fort, Esplanade, Carnac Bunder, Backbay Reclamation and Grant Road areas of Mumbai and work was ongoing for restoring power to other areas.

A spokesperson from Adani Electricity Mumbai (AEML) told ET that the company has restored power to almost 90% of its customers.

“Due to transmission network failure outside of our system at around 10.05 am this morning, the power grid saw outages across utilities in Mumbai. However, AEML distribution system operated islanding facility successfully and continued successfully power supply to vital installations with the help of Dahanu Thermal Power Station (DTPS). We wish we had more power for which we are dependent on grid input. The power supplies to remaining consumers of AEML are being restored in phased manner as input power is being restored by grid operations of Mahatransco”, said Adani in a statement.

Tata Power said it has been progressively restoring power supply to all its consumers starting 12 noon and has restored it fully. The company said earlier in the day that it is working on restoration of power. “At 10.10 am there was simultaneous substation tripping in MSETCL's Kalwa, Kharghar causing a huge dip in frequency in the Mumbai transmission system which led to tripping of Mumbai power supply. Restoration work is in progress to bring supply from the three Hydro units and Trombay units once the MSETCL transmission lines are connected.”
