Uttar Pradesh: Fed up over eve-teasing, girl ends life in Pratapgarh

PRAYAGRAJ: A 17-year-old girl allegedly committed suicide by jumping into a well at Puwasi village in Pratapgarh district on Tuesday after being fed up over an eve-teasing incident with her.
Acting upon the complaint filed by her family members, the police have registered a case under section 354 and 306 of IPC against three persons - Guddu Singh, Dabbu Singh and Gunnu - all residents of the same village.Police have also arrested Guddu Singh in connection with the case.
SP ( Pratapgarh) Anurag Arya told TOI that three police teams were formed to nab the two remaining persons named in the FIR.
He, however, said that police had been probing the case thoroughly to find out the actual cause that forced the girl to take the extreme step.
The call details of the mobile phone of the victim revealed that the girl was in constant touch with Gunnu Tiwari. Gunnu, who worked at the local eatery of Guddu Singh, used to talk to the girl, and her parents on phone.
The family members alleged that Gunnu Tiwari had allegedly barged into their house late on Monday night and made an abortive attempt to molest the girl. The miscreants had also threatened the family members of dire consequences if they dared to report the matter to the police.
After the incident, senior police officials too rushed the spot and carried out investigations.
