A 35-year-old woman attempted self-immolation in front of the Vidhan Sabha in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday afternoon, police said.

A resident of Maharajganj district, the woman has been admitted to the civil hospital and is in a critical condition.

The 35-year-old was married Akhilesh Tiwari but later divorced. The woman then went on to marry  Asif. After which she converted to Islam. Immediately after marriage, Asif got a job in Saudi Arabia. His family members allegedly began harassing the woman. Sources said that she was fed up of the harassment and came to Lucknow to end her life.
