Bankura BJP MP warns TMC against village programmes

Bankura BJP MP warns TMC against village programmes
Bankura: BJP’s Bankura MP has issued a veiled threat to Trinamool, which is planning to reach out to villages in the district as part of its ‘Grame Chalo’ programme ahead of the Bengal assembly polls.
Subhas Sarkar said the Trinamool programme might spark protests and violence because villagers were likely to confront leaders and deliver a tight slap on their face.

“It is quite natural villagers may ask for an account of the work done in the area for the last nine years, since Trinamool came to power in 2011. This will lead to commotion. Chances are that Trinamool leaders on a village tour may get a tight slap on their face,” the BJP MP said on Tuesday in an attempt to protect the party’s new-found support bases in rural Bankura from Trinamool incursion.
Minister of state for panchayat and rural development Shyamal Santra reacted sharply to Sarkar’s remark. “He (BJP MP) will remain responsible for any attack on Trinamool workers in the district,” Santra said, dropping hints that Trinamool was not going to take the “provocative remark” lying down.
