Supreme Court reserves its verdict in Hathras case
NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Thursday reserved its verdict on a number of pleas in the Hathras case in which a Dalit girl was allegedly brutally raped and died due to injuries.
The SC was hearing a number of pleas:
*Who should monitor the CBI probe: The SC or the Allahabad high court?
*Whether after the completion of probe, should the trial be transferred to Delhi as demanded by the victim's family?
*Whether UP police or the CRPF should provide security to victim's family members and witnesses?
During the hearing, the UP police gave details of security ring thrown around victim’s family.
Solicitor general Tushar Mehta on behalf of the UP government requested the SC to monitor the investigation.
The victim family's counsel Seema Kushwaha requested transfer of trial to Delhi.
Appearing for UP police DGP, counsel Harish Salve said that if the SC so feels, it could order CRPF to provide security to victim’s family. “But please record that it is no reflection on UP police,” he said.

A 19-year-old Dalit woman was allegedly raped by four upper-caste men in Hathras on September 14. She died on September 29 at Delhi's Safdarjung Hospital during treatment.
The victim was cremated in the dead of the night near her home on September 30.
Her family alleged they were forced by the local police to hurriedly conduct her last rites.
