NOIDA: Police on Thursday claimed to have arrested a man with nearly Rs 70 lakh cash that was allegedly stolen from a Mumbai-based businessman earlier this week.
Gulnawaz (30) alias Arif was allegedly ferrying the stolen cash from Mumbai to Saharanpur. But his luck ran out when a Noida police team stopped the car for checking at Char Murti roundabout in the Bisrakh area.
Harish Chandar, DCP (central Noida), said, “Our team had stopped the car bearing commercial registration number of Maharashtra around 4pm on Wednesday and upon checking found a bag containing nearly Rs 70 lakh cash.

Gulnawaz, along with the two drivers of the car, was taken to the Bisrakh police station when they could not come up with a believable justification for carrying such a huge amount.”
Upon sustained interrogation, Gulnawaz told cops that his brother Shahnawaz had stolen the bag of cash from his businessman employer, Haseen, in Mumbai and called him there to take the same home. Gulnawaz had travelled to Mumbai last week and was returning with the cash in the cab.
Chandar said that the cash was counted in the presence of a forensic team, which confirmed the notes were not fake.
“It was around Rs 69.18 lakh. Gulnawaz told us that his brother gave him the bag of cash that was kept in his employer’s office. Shahnawaz had the keys of the cash vault of his office, his brother claimed,” the DCP said.
An FIR has been lodged against Shahnawaz under IPC Section 414 (assisting in concealment of stolen property). “We have informed Mumbai Police about the crime. Shahnawaz will soon be nabbed.
