PANAJI: Konkan
Railway Corporation Ltd has used the Covid-19 pandemic and the ongoing cut down in
rail services to speed up the
electrification of the
Konkan Railway route. It expects the
work to be completed by March.
In September, Konkan Railway also completed its first export order, delivering two 1,600 HP diesel–electric multiple unit (DEMU) rakes to Nepal.
“Konkan Railway is effectively utilizing the
Corona lockdown by providing more traffic blocks to speedy progress of electrification work on Konkan Railway route which is now in its final stages and it is expected to be completed by the end of this financial year,” Konkan Railway said in a statement.
It completed 30 years of operations and to mark the occasion, chairman and chief executive officer of
the Railway Board Vinod Kumar Yadav addressed a virtual gathering. Konkan Railway has taken various initiatives to improve rail services and amenities for the benefit of the passengers and has joined the campaign against Covid19.
