Rewa accomplished one of its missions yesterday after defeating Nanukuloa 22-13 and securing its place in the Skipper Cup Premiership competition next year.

Despite a home crowd advantage at Garvey Park in Tavua, Rewa dominated the battle upfront in the Vodafone Vanua Championship semifinal. Nanukuloa was constantly penalized for collapsing the scrum.

Rewa was awarded a penalty try at each half and Coach Ro Alifereti Doviverata said they targeted Nanukuloa in the scrum and lineout.

“Our intention was to play them in their half, pressure them and force them to commit mistakes. And we succeeded in doing that,” he said.

He thanked everyone who supported them from day one.

“It’s been a tough seven weeks for us. We played a champion side and they showed that today. We played in their backyard and they showed why they topped their Eastern Vanua pool.”

Rewa was runner up to Northland from the Central Vanua pool.

They will play for the third time this week in the Vanua Championship final at Lawaqa Park.
