Kolkata: Renovated floating market in Patuli reopens
The market has been revamped by the Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority with 57 new boats for the hawkers to start their business afresh in the first phase of its renovation.
KOLKATA: The floating market at Patuli that was badly ravaged by cyclone Amphan on May this year was reopened by state urban development and municipal affairs minister Firhad Hakim on Saturday.
The market has been revamped by the Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority with 57 new boats for the hawkers to start their business afresh in the first phase of its renovation. Further renovation work will continue with the rest of the boats expected to be ready by December 25 this year.

The market that had started off with 112 boats in January, 2018 had been conceptualised and developed by KMDA on the lines of the floating markets that could be seen in Thailand.
Minister Firhad Hakim, who is also the KMDA chairman said that a Rs 74 lakh scheme would be taken up to set up a plant that will keep the water of the floating market continuously clean.
