NAWANAGAR (BUXAR): Bihar chief minister and JD (U) chief Nitish Kumar spent 25 minutes of his 30-minute speech at Nawanagar (Dumraon) on Sunday highlighting the work done by his government over the past 15 years, reinforcing his election campaign focus on development.

Kumar, who was accompanied by deputy CM and senior BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi and state minister Sanjay Jha, emphasised that the work undertaken by his government also brought about social and regional parity in the state.

Targeting the state’s main opposition RJD, that CM recounted that he struggled to build the confidence of business community and traders who had suffered during the 15-year rule of Lalu Prasad and Rabri Devi before 2005. “What happened during the 15-year rule of the husband and the wife (Lalu Prasad and Rabri Devi)? Doctors and traders were kidnapped. There were several incidents of massacre also,” said Kumar.

During his speech, he tried to consolidate his party’s support base of women and most backward castes by highlighting the works executed by his government for their growth. He also referred to the works done by his government to bring the scheduled caste and scheduled tribe voters into the mainstream of society.

Kumar said his government ensured proper representation of women in local bodies as well as panchayats, apart from giving reservation to women in government jobs. “In Bihar, women were recruited in the police force in a large number,” he said.

The CM also promised voters that he would ensure irrigational facilities for agricultural fields if he returns to power. “Electricity has reached every house across the state. If we form the next government, we would ensure irrigation facilities for agriculture fields through power,” he said.

He also made a promise that he would set up a veterinary hospital, equipped with modern technology, for every 10 panchayats if he is re-elected. Medicines for the animals would be made available by the state government, he promised.

He also appreciated the Centre's support in the development of the state.

Speaking at the rally, deputy CM Sushil Modi said Kumar is synonymous with development. “The availability of power for more than 20 hours in your area is karishma (miracle) of Nitish Kumar,” he said.

The JD(U) has fielded Anjum Ara from Dumraon.
