KALYAN: Probing the death of Chartered Accountant Sagar Deshpande who was found dead on the tracks near Titwala station, the Kalyan government railway police (GRP) found that he was depressed about being unemployed for a year, and about being interrogated in connection to the Cox & Kings scam. Deshpande, who was divorced, lived with his parents in Charai, Thane.
The police recorded Deshpande's parents statements, who told them about his depression.
A police official, who did not wish to be named, said, "Our team is also recording his ex-wife's statement. They were divorced, but he spoke to her often." The GRP is also planning to record the statement of the motorman who spotted Deshpande's body on the tracks.
Senior police inspector Valmiki Shardul said, "We are probing whether it was a suicide or something else, and our conclusion will be shared with the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and Economic Offences Wing (EOW), probing the scam."
Deshpande worked for Cox & Kings as a general manager till about a year ago, when he was laid off. The EOW is investigating multiple cases against the company, including a Rs 172 crore cheating complaint.
