Couple die after jumping into well near Coimbatore
COIMBATORE: A couple died after jumping into a well at Thevampadi Valasu near Vadakkipalayam on the outskirts of Coimbatore on Sunday night. The rural police and fire and rescue services personnel retrieved the dead bodies from the well in the early hours of Monday.
The deceased have been identified as T Prabhukumar, 25, and P Nandhini, 22, both hailed from Saralipathi tribal settlement near Anaimalai.
Police said the couple got married five years ago and had a three-year-old son. The couple were working in a farm belonging to G Muruganandam at Thevampadi Valasu. They were staying in a house in the farm.
The couple used to consume alcohol together and fought with each other.
On Sunday night, the couple fought with each other under the influence of alcohol. Nandhini came out of the house and jumped into a well in the farmland. Prabhukumar also jumped into the well to save his wife. However, the couple drowned.
Prabhukumar’s relative Mahendrakumar informed the farm owner who in turn alerted the Vadakkipalayam police. The bodies were sent to the Pollachi Government Hospital. The police registered a case.
