Kerala: Total Covid cases cross 50,000-mark in Thiruvananthapuram; more recoveries than positive cases in October so far

The total confirmed Covid-19 cases in the district crossed 50,000 with 516 Covid 19 positive cases being reported on Monday. The confirmed cases doubled to cross 50,000 in exactly a month. As on September 19, the total confirmed cases in the district was 25,524.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The total confirmed Covid-19 cases in the district crossed 50,000 with 516 Covid 19 positive cases being reported on Monday. The confirmed cases doubled to cross 50,000 in exactly a month. As on September 19, the total confirmed cases in the district was 25,524. As on Monday, the confirmed cases in the district is 50,368. While cases had peaked at a fast pace since September, the recovery rate in the district has equally got better within the first two weeks of October.

The capital has the second highest recovery rate after Wayanadu in the state at present. While the recovery rate was below 70% towards the end of September, it started to get better since the first week of October. 17,233 persons recovered in 18 days so far in October while 15,031 got infected. Since October 10, 6,107 persons got infected whereas 9011 have recovered. The recovery rate has slowly improved from 65% to 72% between October 1 and 10 and since then the rate has improved steadily growing from 73% to 78.7%.
1,670 persons recovered from the disease on Monday. 357 persons acquired infection through local contact and 12 of them are health workers. 2217 persons were brought under disease surveillance in the district on Monday. 30,022 persons are presently under quarantine in the district. 26,226 persons are under home isolation and 225 persons are under institutional quarantine. 2,953 persons completd surveillance period without showing symptoms on Monday. Spread of infection in the district has dropped, said collector Navjot Khosa.
In a statement issued here on Monday, she said that for the past one week, daily number of Covid 19 positive cases is below 1,000. "In the past few days there are more recoveries than the infected persons. This is reflective of the output of strong regulations being put into effect in the district," said Khosa. The recovery rate in the district is now higher than the state’s recovery rate which is 72%. The collector said that in addition to section 144 regulations, scientific way of determining containment zones and strong quarantine system were effective in bringing down transmission rate.
