Apple CEO Tim Cook replies to Indore resident's email

Apple CEO Tim Cook responded to an email sent by a Indore resident on how the Apple Watch played a critical role in saving his life. R Rajhans, a retired pharma professional, uses an Apple Watch Series 5, which was given to him by his son, who wanted to be more aware of his parents’ health with the help of technology.
The 61-year-old, sometime in March, had been feeling unwell and decided to check his ECG on the Apple Watch.
His ECG did show an Afib — atrial fibrillation — result so he decided to check it a couple of more times on the Watch. For the uninitiated, AFib is the most common form of serious arrhythmia, or irregular heart rhythm. The same result persisted and he decided to share the ECG findings with the doctor, his son Siddharth Rajhans told The Times of India in a phone conversation. Though he did suffer from hypertension, he didn’t have any heart condition.

Further diagnosis showed that Rajhans had low ejection fraction which required immediate heart surgery. Due to Covid-19 pandemic restrictions, the surgery was delayed but the retired pharma professional kept monitoring his ECG on the Apple Watch. Finally, his surgery was scheduled in July and was performed successfully.
His son decided to write to Apple and CEO Tim Cook apprising them about how Apple Watch had played a crucial role in saving his father’s life. Last week, he heard from the Apple CEO, who in his email wrote, “



Apple’s team did get in touch with Rajhans to get updates on his father’s health. The Apple Watch, as per Rajhans, was vital in keeping a track of his father’s health during the time. “The idea of having an Apple Watch or such a gadget is to strike a balance between using tech and creating medical awareness in order to take charge of our parents’ lives,” says Siddharth, who had given the Apple Watch to his father for this very reason.
