Chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal tweeted that he had fruitful discussions with Shah who assured support for resolving the dispute. “Had a fruitful discussion regarding the situation at Assam-Mizoram border with Union Home Minister Shri @AmitShahji, who assured all support to solve the matter amicably,” Mizoram chief minister Zoramthanga tweeted too on Monday. Sonowal apprised PM Modi, over phone, about the prevailing situation besides calling up Zoramthanga. During his discussion with Zoramthanga, Sonowal stressed on the need to amicably settle the dispute to maintain peace at the border. Zoramthanga assured Sonowal that he would take steps to maintain peace.
Following up on the political initiative, Cachar SP Bhanwar Lal Meena on Monday held talks with his Kolasib counterpart Pu Vanlalfaka Ralte and Vairengte SDO at Lailapur. The officials decided to take immediate steps for resuming movement of stranded trucks and providing point-to-point escort. The truckers’ association which took part in the meeting was urged to prevail upon drivers and helpers to resume services and lessen the hardship of people of both states. The inter-state border remained peaceful on Monday. The states have deployed security personnel, including the Indian Reserve Battalion.

Union home ministry officials said the situation was under control. Home secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla chaired a meeting between the states where the two chief secretaries participated. Neda convenor Himanta Biswa Sharma, meanwhile, urged people to maintain peace and harmony. “People of Assam and Mizoram have always lived in peace and harmony... I request everyone to please follow restraint.”
