THANE: An adult peahen, which was being attacked by crows, was rescued from a society in Ghodbunder road by NGO Resqink Association for Wildlife Welfare (RAWW) on Monday. The forest department suspects the bird was in captivity.
A distress call was made from Kanchan Pushp society at Waghbil. The rescuers from RAWW Gurpreet Sahota, Aman Singh and Meet Divedi reached the spot, waited for the bird to calm down and then cornered it and safely rescued it.

The bird was then taken to the animal hospital -- Thane SPCA.
"The doctors there stated that the bird was mildly hydrated and it has been kept under observation for 24 hours. If it concludes by the authorities that it was kept in captivity then we will have to keep it in a flight cage for rehabilitation," said Pawan Sharma, honorary wildlife warden and founder of RAWW.
The forest authorities stated that they suspect that the bird was probably kept in captivity.
"The society is not adjoining to Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP) so it is unlikely that it has come from the forest. We hence suspect that it was probably in captivity and will be investigating the same," said Narendra Muthe, range forest officer (Thane).
