Five dead, 35 injured after bus falls into gorge in Maharashtra's Nandurbar

Five persons were killed and at least 35 injured after a bus they were travelling in fell into a gorge near Khamchoundar village in Nandurbar on Wednesday.

NASHIK: Five persons died and 35 suffered serious injuries after a bus fell into Kondaibari Ghat on the Dhule-Surat highway in Nandurbar district, 200 kms from Nashik, in the early hours of Wednesday.
The Nandurbar police, including senior police officials and district collector Rajendra Bharud, have rushed to the incident spot for the rescue operation.

Collector Rajendra Bharud said that the accident took place at 1am when a travel bus number GJ 14 X 3111, going from Malkapur to Surat, was hit from behind by another bus, which was also proceeding towards Surat from Mehkar.
Following the collision, the bus in the front fell into the Kondaibari Ghat near Khamchoundar village under the Visarwadi police station.
Bharud said that the bus fell about 60 to 80 feet deep into the valley.
Five persons including the bus driver, cleaner and three passengers died on the spot. Other 35 people who were injured have been rushed to the Nandurbar civil hospital.
The collector added that additional SP, SDPO, five officers and 50 men are at the spot to provide help to the injured people. Cranes and gas cutters have been deployed to rescue the passengers.
