Lawyer shot multiple times in Bihar's Gopalganj

PATNA: Unidentified bike borne criminals shot at a practising lawyer multiple times at Bidutola under Thawe police station area in Gopalganj district on Wednesday morning.
Thawe police station SHO Vishal Anand said that the injured lawyer was identified as Navin Kumar, 35.
According to the SHO, the lawyer was going to Gopalganj civil court on bike from his residence at village Jamasari under Ucchkagaon police station area in the district.
Anand said that two bike borne criminals intercepted the lawyer and shot him at least five to six times after which they fled towards town area.

“The lawyer was rushed to sadar hospital from where he was referred to Gorakhpur for better treatment,” he said.
Anand said police recovered at least three empty cartridges from spot. He said that though family members had not shared anything yet but police had come to know that an old land dispute was reason behind the attempt to kill him.
Meanwhile Sadar SDPO Naresh Paswan said that a team was sent to Gorakhpur for recording the lawyer’s statement. “However he was further shifted to Lucknow. Thereafter the police team was also directed to travel onwards to Lucknow too,” he said.

SDPO said police investigation were going on to nab those who had attempted to kill the lawyer and those who had hatched the conspiracy.
Meanwhile, routine legal work at Gopalganj civil court was completely disrupted as lawyers didn’t attended any proceedings.
Gopalganj civil court public prosecutor Deo Vansh Giri told TOI over phone that lawyers didn’t take part in court proceedings and also blocked the busy SBI Chowk in Gopalganj town for almost two hours which badly affected traffic movement.
“SP Manoj Kumar Tiwary reached the spot and assured lawyers of nabbing the culprits within 48 hours only after which they removed blockade,” Giri added.
