Good trains service starts in Punjab, 26 out of 30 spots of rail roko dharna cleared
Action after a long gap was witnessed at Ludhiana railway station where from several trains passed
LUDHIANA: Ever since Wednesday evening when Punjab farmers decided to allow movement of goods train into and from Punjab till November 5, Ferozepur division of Indian railways has swung into action. Since yesterday night, railways has been making trial runs of light engines on different routes under Ferozepur division to ensure safety of the tracks.
According to railways, barring Manawala near Amritsar all the major tracks are clear and till 5pm on Thursday.
Farmers have vacated 26 out of 30 spots where they had been sitting on tracks under their 'rail roko andolan'.
Meanwhile today, Ferozepur division has initiated the process of running 12 goods trains containing food grains which are on the move and out of these two have been cleared out of which one commuted between Ludhiana and Jammu, while remaining would make it to Ambala division today itself.
Confirming the development, divisional railway manager (DRM), Ferozepur division, Rajesh Aggarwal, said, “After clearance of agitation in Ferozepur division, 12 loaded goods (food grain) trains are on move, 2 trains cleared, whereas other 9 trains will be made over to Ambala division in next 2-3 hours. Other movement of goods trains also started for ensuring loading of food grains and inward supply of fertilizers, tractor, coal and containers.”
Aggarwal thanked the farmers for allowing the movement of the goods trains and also said that railways is also running complete track clearance exercise in the entire division and once it is complete the goods trains will run with faster speed than present.
Meanwhile lot of action was witnessed at major railway stations including Ludhiana where from a few goods trains passed to go towards Jalandhar and Jammu and the empty goods trains on the Amritsar Ludhiana track too made their way towards Ambala and other destinations via Ludhiana.
