A fire broke out in one of the power compartments of the BHEL manufactured air-conditioned Electrical Multiple Unit (EMU) rake stabled at Mumbai Central carshed on Friday.

MUMBAI: A fire broke out in one of the power compartments of the BHEL manufactured air-conditioned Electrical Multiple Unit (EMU) rake stabled at Mumbai Central carshed on Friday.

WR’s chief public relations officer Sumit Thakur said, “At 1.40am, heavy smoke was observed by the staff in one of the generator compartment.
Carshed staff started dousing the smoke by fire extinguishers and water. Other railway officials arrived at the site at 2.15am, but by then the smoke was brought under control.”

Fire brigade reached the site at 2.50am and after inspection left at 3.10am.
Thakur said, “There was no damage in passenger area of the coach but wiring of shunting desk and electronic cabinet got burnt. An inquiry has been ordered.”
