Perth Glory have boosted their squad, snaring experienced international Dutch central defender Darryl Lachman for the next two years.

Amsterdam-born Lachman made nearly 200 Eredivisie appearances for clubs like Groningen, PEC Zwolle and FC Twente.

The former Ajax youth player helped PEC Zwolle win promotion to the Eredivisie and claim the KNVB Cup during the first of his two spells with the club.

He had a season at English Championship club Sheffield Wednesday and has been with Israeli Premier League side Hapoel Ra’anana.

The imposing 30-year-old made his international debut for the Dutch Caribbean island of Curacao in 2015 and went on to make 30 appearances.

Glory coach Richard Garcia said Lachman was an excellent addition to his squad.

“Darryl is a strong central defender who is very calm in possession and an excellent distributor of the ball,” Garcia said.

“He’s very much a leader at the back who communicates and organises extremely well and also has a good turn of pace.

“There’s no doubt in my mind that he has all the qualities required to make a big impact for us this year and we’re delighted to have him on board.”

Glory chief executive Tony Pignata said: “Signing a player with Darryl’s wealth of top-level European experience is further evidence of the club’s determination to continue its sustained success.

“With a strong core of players already on board and further high-quality signings to come, there is every reason for our members and fans to feel excited about the season ahead.”

Lachman, who will be available for both the Asian Champions League and the A-League campaigns said: “I’m delighted to be coming to Australia because I’ve heard a lot of great things about it.

“I can’t wait to get started. I just want us to win as many games as possible and my aim is to play for the title.”
