Megan Hullinger, assistant professor in the department of nursing at Dakota Wesleyan University, was recently announced as the recipient of the 2020 South Dakota Nurses Association Nurse Educator Award.
The South Dakota Nurses Association recognizes nurses from across the state at its annual business meeting each year. This year, the meeting was held virtually Oct. 4, which marked the 104th anniversary of the SDNA. Deb Fischer-Clemens, president of the SDNA, made the announcement during the virtual ceremony.
“I am very honored to know that my passion for teaching has impacted so many lives,” said Hullinger in a press release. “I love what I do, and my goal has always been to produce great nurses. It is so rewarding to see my students thriving in the specialities that they chose and knowing that I had some part in their foundation as a nurse.”
According to the SDNA website, “the Nurse Educator Award acknowledges a registered nurse who serves as a faculty member at one of the South Dakota nursing programs. The recipient is recognized by peers to be exemplary in the areas of teaching effectiveness and facilitating learning for students in nursing. The nurse also participates actively in professional nursing activities as well as the community in which he or she lives, demonstrates leadership skills, has a strong ability to work with others and is seen as a mentor for future nurse educators.”
“Megan’s drive, commitment and motivation are all part of what makes her an outstanding nurse educator,” said Dr. Stacy Eden, nursing department chair at DWU. “Megan is very involved with different aspects of student success, including being the SNA champion on campus. We are blessed to have her on this campus and congratulate her on this well-deserved award.”

Hullinger has been with DWU since 2015. She earned her bachelor of science in nursing from South Dakota State University and her masters of science in nursing from Grand Canyon University.
